It’s All in the Numbers

It’s All In The Numbers

Diabetes mellitus is the sixth leading cause of death and is reaching an epidemic proportion. According to government estimates on June 24, 2008, 24 million people in America have type 2 diabetes caused by poor diet and lack of exercise. That is an increase of more than 3 million in two years, which means that nearly 8 percent of the U.S. population has been diagnosed with this disease. When you include the 57 million who have pre-diabetes and those who do not know they have diabetes, you realize the severity of the situation. And the numbers keep changing with more and more people being diagnosed all the time.
In 2003, the International Diabetes Federation estimated that almost 200 million people around the world had diabetes. That’s almost 5.1 percent of the adult population!

The International Diabetes Federation estimates that this figure will rise to 333 million by 2025 as a consequence of longer life expectancy, sedentary lifestyle and changing dietary patterns. The World Health Organization predicts that the number of adults with diabetes in the world will rise to 370 million by the year 2030. That equates to approximately one in every fourteen people, which means that more than likely you or someone you know has diabetes. Many more are at risk for developing this life-threatening disease. And, the worst part is while medical science is working on it, there is currently no cure for diabetes.

But, my book is not about statistics. It is about caring, educating, and helping the people we love. Reserve your copy now!
